Popeye's 80th Birthday Party!

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Popeye's 80th Birthday Party on November 7th at the AWWWmazing Place! Boutique in the Southern Park Mall, Boardman, Ohio! The event was a success. You shoulda seen the cool spinach can cake and cancer survivor kids smoking corn cob pipes. !!!! WOW!!! What a great time everyone had with eating cake and popcorn, watching Popeye cartoons, getting prizes, and of course, hearing the R.O.C.c.K. Children's Choir sing!

For the first time in thirty years, the Popeye has reappeared in a new comic book, due to the efforts of Chris Yambar. Chris created the Popeye Picnic comic book for the annual Popeye festival held every September in Chester, Illinois, the home of the Popeye comic strip creater Elzie G. Segar. Life long, passionate fans of Popeye, cartoonists George Broderick, Jr., and Ken Wheaton drew sections of the new comic book. Popeye newspaper strip creator Hy Eisman and comic book artist George Wildman contributed pin-ups for the project.

The premium comic features 32 pages of original material found nowhere else and is available only through A Way With Words Foundation and Chris Yambar's Premium Pop company. In the Popeye Picnic comic book, Popeye returns to his birthplace in Illinois and meets himself! The story line honors the town and its citizens, who were the inspiration for the original comic strip.

Proceeds from this event benefited the A Way With Words Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping and encouraging children cancer survivors and their families in the Mahoning Valley region.
